Move a Flame Altar without risking your base

Treat extinguishing an altar as removing protection, not moving a paid upgrade. Back up first. If another altar can be placed, establish and upgrade the replacement before extinguishing the old one, then confirm that its three-dimensional area covers every part of the base. Do not use a reset timer as a safety guarantee.

Early Access risk guide based on the linked altar and base-planning references. Check current placement limits in your own world.

Check protection before removing the old altar

A new altar is useful only if its own coverage protects the work you intend to keep.

  1. Back up

Keep a recoverable world save before changing protection.

  2. Establish replacement

Only if current altar limits and placement rules allow it.

  3. Check the full cube

Walls, roof, cellar and terrain must fit.

  4. Remove old protection

Do not proceed while any part is uncovered.

Decide whether relocation is actually necessary

If the only problem is that a room no longer fits, a local altar upgrade may solve it without moving protection. If the altar position prevents the intended layout, plan the replacement as a new coverage decision.

Do not assume local upgrades transfer to a newly placed altar. Check its own building area before relying on it. Leave the old altar intact while you resolve a placement-limit message or determine whether the replacement can cover the cellar.

Use a three-dimensional checklist

Part to checkWhat can be missed
Ground floor and outer wallsAn annex beyond the new area’s edge.
Roof, upper floors and towerA height problem hidden by a ground-only check.
Cellar and excavationTerrain edits below the new protected volume.
Production and storage roomsA detached workshop that used the old altar’s coverage.

Stop if replacement protection is uncertain

If you cannot place an additional altar, this sequence is not permission to extinguish the only existing one. Keep the backup and resolve the placement constraint first. Likewise, do not remove the old altar when the replacement’s upgrade or vertical coverage is uncertain.

Unprotected work can be reset by the world. Reports of a delay or a restart window are not a reliable period in which to finish a move. This is a prevention plan, not a promise that an already lost base can be restored or that all upgrade materials will be refunded.
