Flame Altar range: expand the space for your build
Choose Upgrade Altar to enlarge this altar’s building area. Strengthen the Flame is a separate, global progression track. The local building area is a cube with side lengths of 40, 80, 120 or 160 metres—not just a circle drawn across the ground.
Early Access base-coverage reference. Local altar sizes are corroborated by the linked building references; 1.0 requirements may change.
Think in width, height and depth
A taller tower or deeper cellar consumes the same protected volume as an extension across the ground. Check the whole build, not only the altar’s floor.
A 40-metre cube is not a 40-metre radius. The listed size describes the side of the building area. Choose the level that contains your planned walls, roof, cellar and terrain work, then check their coverage in the game before committing resources.
Choose the upgrade that solves your problem
| You need | Relevant track | Why |
|---|---|---|
| More permanent space at this base | Upgrade Altar | Enlarges this altar’s local building cube. |
| Global Flame progression | Strengthen the Flame | A separate progression track, not a substitute for local coverage. |
| A safer altar position | A coverage and relocation plan | Moving an altar is a different risk from enlarging its area. |
Outline the build before buying more space
- Identify the farthest wall or planned extension.
- Include the highest roof point and lowest cellar floor.
- Check whether the existing altar’s cube contains those points.
- Use the local upgrade when the missing requirement is building space.
For a compact workshop, leave room for the next station rather than filling every edge immediately. That is a planning recommendation: it helps avoid moving the altar solely to fit one new production room.
Do not mistake global progress for local protection
Before upgrading, read the selected action and its displayed cost. An improved global Flame does not mean every separate altar has automatically gained the largest local building area.
If an addition lies outside the protected area, resolve coverage first. Building a roof over it or placing furniture there does not replace the altar’s protection. When relocating, follow the coverage-before-removal sequence rather than extinguishing the old altar to see what happens.
