Roof materials and shelter for your workshop

Craft roof blocks at the Workbench and use a roof shape with the Construction Hammer. Plant Fiber Roof takes 5 Plant Fiber for 50 blocks; Stone Shingle Roof takes 5 Stone and 5 Flintstone for 50. After enclosing the work area, check Sheltered status instead of assuming a visible roof satisfies every requirement.

Early Access guide: released Update 8 rules and version 0.9.1.2 recipe data. Not a guide to unreleased 1.0 changes.

Match the material to the part of the shell

A wall material and a roof material are separate choices. Select the roof material and an appropriate roof shape rather than trying to solve every part with wall blocks.

A roof and enclosure surround the work areaAn illustrative cross-section labels a roof material above the workshop, walls around the work area, and a floor below. Check the actual Sheltered status at the work position; no exact geometric dimensions are asserted.Roof material + roof shapeEnclosed work / rest areaCheck Sheltered status hereFloor within the altar’s building area

Use the shape and material selectors as separate decisions. If a roof does not fit your wall layout, compare the chosen shape and the intended edge before spending more blocks. Check the current HUD’s snapping prompt rather than copying a key from an older guide.

Choose a starter roof recipe

Obtain Plant Fiber for the first recipe or Flintstone for the stone-shingle recipe. Update 7 changed roof-batch yields to 50; older 100-block roof recipes are not the current comparison.

Check the result where you actually work

Complete the room’s roof and enclosure, then check the Sheltered state from the intended work or rest position. A roof that looks complete from outside may not solve the state at the spot you use.

For a new workshop, place the work area inside your altar’s coverage and evaluate shelter there. This guide does not give a universal wall count: the useful completion check is the game’s actual state, not a guessed geometric rule.

Shelter is also a production dependency

A resident’s bed also needs cover

The official Update 8 scene gives the task “Build A Sheltered Bed For Valory”. Plan the resident’s bed under cover rather than treating a bed outdoors as the same job.

For the workshop, check the craftsperson’s Shelter requirement separately from the player’s Rested state. A room can serve both jobs, but their completion checks are distinct.

See the sheltered-bed task in the official scene.

Separate a usable room from a longer Rested buff

Shelter is a basic room-state check. Comfort is a different decision about how long a Rested buff lasts. Finish the shell first, then improve the rest spot with warmth and useful comfort categories.

A sheltered craftsperson is also distinct from assigning a resident’s bed or roaming behaviour. Do not use those as interchangeable explanations for a recipe marked Shelter.
