Why a building-block recipe has not unlocked

Building-block recipes do not all unlock the same way. Plant Fiber Roof unlocks when you obtain Plant Fiber; Stone Shingle Roof when you obtain Flintstone. Half-Timbered and Roughly Cut Stone require obtaining the actual block plus one qualifying basic building-block acquisition. Merely visiting a biome is not that same task.

Read the unlock condition before gathering more materials

This is a comparison of different prerequisite patterns, not a single universal sequence for every block.

  1. Ingredient trigger?

Obtain the named ingredient, such as Plant Fiber.

  2. Actual block required?

Obtain the named building block itself.

  3. Extra basic block?

Satisfy one allowed acquisition in the any-of group.

  4. Workbench recipe

Then check the recipe and its ingredients.

Compare four concrete examples

MaterialAcquisition requirementRecipe after unlocking
Plant Fiber RoofObtain Plant Fiber5 Plant Fiber → 50 roof blocks
Stone Shingle RoofObtain Flintstone5 Stone + 5 Flintstone → 50 roof blocks
Half-TimberedObtain Half-Timbered Block AND one qualifying basic block5 Lump of Clay + 5 Wood Logs → 100 blocks
Roughly Cut StoneObtain Roughly Cut Stone Block AND one qualifying basic block8 Stone + 2 Rubble → 100 blocks

Keep “all of” and “any of” separate

For the last two examples, obtaining the named block is one requirement. The additional group permits any one of several existing building-block acquisitions; Rough Wood, Rough Stone or Plant Fiber Roof are examples from the listed group.

You do not need every material in the any-of group. Conversely, owning a basic block does not replace the separate requirement to obtain the named Half-Timbered or Roughly Cut Stone reward.

The catalog helps selection; it does not replace prerequisites

Update 8’s Material Catalog lets you view, sort and select building materials while using the hammer. Use it alongside the recipe information: a material-selection tool and an unlock prerequisite answer different questions.

Before taking a long trip for a recipe, write down whether you need an ingredient or an actual block acquisition. This prevents returning with a stack of raw material when the missing requirement was the block reward itself.

Use this as an unlock-pattern reference

The examples identify why a recipe can remain unavailable despite having its crafting ingredients. They are not a complete catalogue of every block or a chest-location route. Follow the linked item records for the specific prerequisite, and use a current location guide before planning a reward hunt.
