Craft a Small Magic Chest and build from storage
After rescuing the Blacksmith, craft a Small Magic Chest at the Workbench with 1 Small Chest, 15 Shroud Spores and 15 Active Mycelium. It has 24 slots and supplies base crafting. Update 8 also lets you select building blocks from Magic Chests without carrying a sample in your backpack.

This is the small chest recipe in version 0.9.1.2. The older Small Chest + Shroud Core recipe is not the current small-chest route.

Keep ingredient storage and building-block storage distinct
For crafting, the Magic Chest makes stored materials available to the base. For building, the Construction Hammer needs the appropriate building-block stack. Logs and Rough Wood Blocks are not the same item.
A useful storage plan is to keep processed building blocks identifiable rather than mixing their names up with the raw ingredients used to make them. That makes the Material Catalog easier to use and avoids crafting the wrong stack before a large build.
Magic Chest access is not Quick Stack range

If a material is missing, check the actual item first
Check whether the chest contains the processed block or only its raw ingredient. Then check the Material Catalog selection while wielding the hammer inside the altar’s area.
Do not use the Quick Stack Station’s 16-metre number as a crafting-access rule. This page covers the base Magic Chest feature, not a guarantee of cross-altar access or every factory’s input behaviour. Factories using water have a separate storage system explained in the water-supply guide.
